Day 54 - Enfleshings

Friday, June 17, 2011

Today was nothing short of exhausting! It’s been one hell of a week since we got back. It felt like another gallery marathon today. We hit up three major exhibitions today at the Tate Britain and Tate Modern.

The first show we saw was a Watercolour Show at the Tate Britain. I was truly fascinated by this show. I thought it was brilliant! I didn’t know it was possible to get these results with watercolours! There were paintings in this show that looked like oil paintings. From beginning to end, the show was captivating. I really enjoyed the botanical painting at the beginning as well as the more abstract pieces later in the show. I was very impressed.

The Vorticist Show at the Tate Britain wasn’t quite as captivating. It really lost me. There were a few pieces that I enjoyed, but mostly, I just saw General Grievous from Star Wars.

While we were at the Tate Britain, we did another group presentation. This time I was partnered with Renee. We were assigned to Helen Chadwick’s Enfleshings I. At first I had no clue what to say about this piece, but after we took some time to analyze it and quickly research it, it came together. Now I quite like the work. To me it represents the female womb. The light is the growing life inside. It’s beautiful. And I never would have said that before coming here. I think I’m making big steps.

The last show we saw was Miro at the Tate Modern. By this time in the evening, I’m sad to say I just just tired of looking at artwork. It felt like nothing was hitting me and all I saw was crap. There were a couple that I wrote down though.. I guess it wasn’t a complete loss. I think I appreciate Miro a little more than I did.
